March 2012 Meeting

HILL COUNTRY SMOCKING GUILD
MARCH 20, 2012


Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM by President Melissa.
Minutes on blog site approved as presented
Treasurer’s Report approved as presented. Savings-$958.66; Checking-$700.04
Total - $1,658.70.
There were 12 members and 1 visitor in attendance.
OFFICER REPORT:
By-Law Committee will be meeting in the summer.
Old Business:
Dot and Deanna are checking with Cheryl from Afraid Not and Gayle Doan regarding classes offered, availability, fees and deposit requirements. They will also be asking if they are agreeable to housing with a group member.
New Business:
Mary reported that SAGA sent two printed copies of classes offered during Atlanta convention. Dates of convention are October 9 – 14th. Registration begins May 1st at 10am.
There was a discussion of feasibility of carpooling. Decision was not reached.
Door Prize – won by Sandy, a visitor to HCSG. Prize included threads, smock and block, eyelet ecru fabric and buttons.
Show & Share:
Deanna shared a delightfully smocked bishop dress with a bee button.
Kathy wowed us with a serged joined lace pillowcase and a Fairy tale frocks and Lollipops e-pattern animal print dress.
Kim smocked a blue patterned pinwale corduroy outfit using Children’s Corner Elliot pattern.
Patty shared a picture of her handsome grandson in white bubble she had made for him.
Dot decorated a zebra striped purchased dress with Minnie Mouse motif and pink bows. She also made a pillowcase from black and white Eiffel tower printed material decorated in lime green and zebra print
Toni completed 3 wee-care bonnets from pattern on SAGA website.
Program:
Pleating: Program presented by Kim Davies and Deanna Hein
Broken Needles –
#1 cause of broken needles – needles that are dull
#2 cause of broken needles – is going too fast
Pleating kit included 11 different fabrics to be pleated, folder, plastics sheaths for pleated fabric and description sheet for each fabric and Worksheet Information Outline.
Bring completed folder and signature card to be signed if working on Artisan certification to next meeting.
